SHINE A LIGHT ON COMMUNITY LIVING

Community Living Ontario is excited to share details of the 2018 edition of the Shine a Light on Community Living campaign as part of Community Living Month. Over the past two years, a number of member organizations have participated in the campaign by having the outside lighting of their administrative offices lit blue and green; staff, people supported, area businesses and municipalities also took part. The CN Tower in Toronto, Bridge 13 in Welland, the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie and many city-owned buildings in London have been involved, along with offices and structures in Espanola, Sault Ste. Marie, Chatham, Bancroft, Essex County, Morrisburg, Newmarket, Windsor, Sharbot Lake, Wallaceburg, Flesherton and Oshawa – to name a few.

This year – on the evening of Friday, May 4th – we will once again leverage our collective voice through this campaign to advocate for the full participation, inclusion and citizenship of all people who have an intellectual disability. We can confirm that Canada’s most iconic structure – The CN Tower – will be illuminated in blue and green.

When homes, businesses and municipal buildings brightly display the Community Living colours on May 4th, a powerful message of inclusion will shine throughout the province. The provincial campaign is one of the many events and activities taking place throughout the month that will create awareness around inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

Friends of Community Living are also encouraged to participate in the campaign by posting their photos to Twitter, Instagram and other social media channels using the hashtag #shinealightonCL. Shine a Light on Community Living is one of the many events and activities taking place in May as part of Community Living Month.
